    Great, thank you! Now that you've explained to me exactly what it means I no longer need to interpret the piece myself. Thanks for saving me the effort! I don't like to be challenged or think anyway. I'd much rather be told what art means by artists, after all only they know the exact meaning of their art. Right?

    thank you for this video 👍. I would like to try making patinas on copper alloys. do you know if we can buy them or if they unfortunately remain secret recipes that the founders will take to their graves 😅?

    • @NationalSculpture
      @NationalSculpture 4 месяца назад

      It's not a secret. Since silicon bronze is 95% copper, pure copper will react pretty much the same way. So, liver of sulfer is the main one, making it dark. Ferric Nitrate will warm up the brown into a more reddish shade. Acryllic paints, thinned way down with water and put on hot, can also be used. More info in the book: Just Sculpt Patinas For Silicon Bronze by Patrick V. Kipper. If in the NYC area, workshop on patina: shop.sculpt.com/240420-patina-hands-on.html

    How did you drill a hole in that copper nail? You didn’t remove it in your demonstration so I’m assuming you drilled a hole in it.

    • @togglebutton3312
      @togglebutton3312 8 месяцев назад

      It wasn't a nail, it was a tack...tacks have a broad head. It was also made of copper so it would be easier to drill into. He says he used a "hand drill" but today I would use a dremel tool or a drill driver with a very small drill bit.

    35:27 My grandfather and great grandfather were stone workers and sculptors of memorials. They got up each morning early to start up the fireplace, in order to temper their instruments. They also was making the charcoal - in big fire piles. Without charcoal they couldn't temper their instruments, without tempering them each morning they couldn't work on the stones. They also was quarrying the stones alone. Stoneworking from the past is astounding hard work.

    'The fountain of the muses', which used to be in the Metropolitan Museum, was the largest commission for an indoor public space in NY City history. It was relegated to a sculpture park in South Carolina when, in fact, this historic commission should have remained in NYC. Surely with the dozens and dozens of new skycrapers being built, it could have graced an otherwise empty atrium. Along with its spectacular cast collection of antiquities and historic monuments, the MMA had yet again chosen to squander its resources and patrimony to concentrate on illicit, illegal aquisitions.
